Bakhmut, end of September, I was painting live. At night a rocket came. At 11 in the morning, the house was still smoking. A few windows away from the breach, a man was boarding up the broken window with a blue cloth. A fire crackled and hissed in the drizzle, and a hammer pounded rhythmically on nails.
