Corridor from Gostomel
Since February 24, 2022, Gostomel has not known peace. Active hostilities are taking place every day, with shelling, killing of civilians, and residential buildings burning in flames that no one is able to extinguish. Most residents have been without electricity, heating, access to food and water for eight days. People, including children, are forced to live in cold and dark shelters and basements.
On March 2, 2022, Russian military personnel shot a car with a woman and a child who wanted to get to a safe and warm place. Given this, Gostomel needs a green corridor like no other. And every day without it will only add to the number of civilian casualties.
On Wednesday, March 9, it was not possible to evacuate civilians from Bucha and Gostomel. The occupiers did not want to agree on humanitarian corridors.
“The evacuation is disrupted! It is impossible to evacuate residents from Bucha and Gostomel today. We failed to reach an agreement with the occupiers: 50 buses remain blocked.”
On March 11, 12 humanitarian corridors were opened in Donetsk, Kharkiv, Kyiv and Zaporizhzhia regions. During the day, 1,800 people were evacuated from Bucha, and 1,000 from Gostomel to Bilohorodka.
